“The University creates and advances knowledge and understanding, and improves the quality of life through the discovery, dissemination, and application of research within and across disciplines.”
UBC’s Okanagan campus seeks to excel internationally in research and teaching, and to be a leader in discoveries and scholarship that serve as the wellspring of scientific, technological, social, cultural, and organizational innovation in Canada and beyond.
UBC’s Okanagan campus attracted $14.5 million in funding for over 600 research projects in 2012-2013 in areas such as materials manufacturing, social, spatial and economic justice, media and digital cultures, psychological science and law water, and heart, lung and vascular health.
Our researchers have access to new facilities and labs, such as a new nano-technology facility, where through the use of chemistry and lasers, researchers work with industry partners to develop microscopic devices such as biological and chemical sensors.
Collaboration occurs across a variety of inter- and intra-faculty research institutes and centres.
We have seen considerable investment in our programs. As we move forward, what areas of research, discovery, dissemination and application will become the distinctive features of UBC Okanagan’s role within the UBC system, nationally and internationally?
How can we uniquely position ourselves to have an impact? How can we leverage our capacity for interdisciplinarity and innovation to drive ideas that transform our local regions but have global relevance?
The recommendations that emerged from the consultation process are detailed in the Aspire report.
